Growing up in the Ozarks, David spent a great deal of his time growing up with his Grandfather, learning how to fish, hunt, and trap. Additionally, he learned many of the old skills such as how to hold a star drill (which by the way I would not do for anyone now that my Grandfather is gone), hack a rail road tie and how to make hand made shake shingles. Joining the Marine Corps (0341) at the age of 17, he enjoyed his time in the grunts, but switched over to Counterintelligence after picking up Sergeant. Staying with the USMC for just over 20 years, he retired in 1998 at the age of 38, attaining the rank of CWO-2. After retiring he has worked for a few different government agencies and as a contractor in Iraq and Afghanistan. Still active as a contractor, he enjoys writing in what spare time he can find, with his first published book coming out in May 2019, “Lone Star Odyssey”. His second book in the series should be out late fall 2019. Living in Texas with his wife and kids, most of his time outside of work is spent with his wife and kids, their horses and dogs, and with repairs around the ranch.

Checking In

Just a quick check in with everyone. Hope this finds everyone doing well. Fairly quiet here, but ……..

Not to sound patronizing but I find that most people who read post apocalyptic books also keep up with current events. One of the problems with trying to follow world or even just US news is finding and knowing if what you are reading or hearing is true.

I got home tonight from work, helped feed our horde, then sat down to catch up on today’s world events before I write a couple chapters on LSO6.

The first thing I noticed was the article on one of our nuclear weapons submarines surfacing in the Norwegian Sea, supported by not one but two carrier battle groups. For those of you that don’t follow these types of events, that is not normal, not even close.

Second I noted the news saying our government sent a message to the Hezbollah leadership that the US does not control Israel as a warning. Again not normal.

Third, Russia and Iran signed a new energy deal, letting the world know that Russia and Iran are at least on friendly terms.

The Bolivian government barely survived a reported military coup.

Several European countries election are moving more to the right.

The EU crackdown on their farming communities is not going well. While our own small and medium sized farms are slowly being drove into bankruptcy. And if that doesn’t work, they (our government) is turning off the water. Of course the normal people in the US are not going to support our farmers they way they do in Europe. European’s still go to the market several times a week where most Americans think food comes from the grocery store, not the farms.

And that’s not including all the other crazy stuff going on in our own country.

So you might be asking, where is this nut job going with all of this. Absolutely no where. All I’m pointing out is if you are not paying attention to everything that is going on, then you should be.

Be prepared, have a plan, and be safe.

LSO is now 5 years old

Today is the 5 year anniversary of publishing my first fiction book, Lone Star Odyssey-First Steps. It has held steady in the top 100 bestsellers lists for military thriller, conspiracy, and terrorism for those five years. Today it is #22 on the conspiracy list, #42 on the terrorism list, and #42 on the military fiction list. In fact all 5 books of the series are all in the top 100 bestsellers list in the conspiracy category, with book five – Consequences at #3 on the bestselling new releases list. Just wanted to say thank you to all my readers out there.

Update on LSO series

Wanted to just take a minute and thank everyone for making book 5 of the LSO series a success. I really do appreciate all of the feedback and comments. I’m working on book 6 and I’m hoping to finish it by June. Everyone is asking if this is the final book in the series. The answer is; I have no idea yet, but I doubt it. I would have to change so much in the way I write to cover that much time and distance.

The second thing I wanted to say today is be careful out there. The majority of people just want to enjoy their weekend with their family and not have to worry about all the stuff that is going on in the world.

But if you do have to travel any distance from home, please do go prepared. While I’m lucky and where I’m at we don’t have the big protests, many areas are experiencing problems. Avoid putting yourself and your loved one’s at risk. Talk with everyone and have a plan on what to do and how to react to worst case scenarios.

Anyway, just be safe, be prepared, and have a plan.
